To Space! For Science!
Every now and then I feel like I have to step away from the books and get my hands a little dirty. Although mostly not quite literally “dirty”. This time, for example, I had to wear latex gloves the whole time.. Over the weekend I had the opportunity to help Hong Kong’s team for the Global Space Balloon Challenge set up their gear and hold on to the so far biggest balloon of my lifetime.
Originally designed to have an autopiloted glider make it’s way back to HK, the team had to improvise with a lunchbox after a very unfortunate and fatal crash just days before the launch.
Nevertheless, a lot of fun was had and the box was sent on its way to space. Here’s two videos of the launch:
Now we just have to retrieve it somehow… Right now it’s floating of the coast of Hong Kong and we’re hoping some fisherman will find it and claim the reward of HK$ 500.
